| Originally, Tarot cards were used for playing card games. One particularly popular game similar to the card game "bridge" was called the game of triumphs. This game was all the rage and enjoyed throughout much of Europe, possibly a couple hundred years before Tarot cards became a tool for divination.
Strong evidence suggests that tarot cards may have originated in Italy around the 15th century (1420-1440). However,over the years there have been many different theories as to where they may have came from, some people believe that there is ties linked to Egypt, China, India, Jewish Kabbalists,France the Celtics and the list goes on.Many of which carrying equally compelling arguments.
Whatever the ethnic background of Tarot cards may be; one thing's for sure, they spread world wide due to their immense popularity and are still going strong in our modern culture. |
