Each card has it's own meaning, but when the cards are layed out in a spread this deepens and sometimes alters the meaning of the card. Also adding to the complexity of reading cards is that sometimes they are inverted which then again changes the meaning. Note:(Not all card readers read inverted cards, this is a personal choice and the reader may just flip them back over upside right) 

There are many different spreads to chose from. It depends on what your looking for. From very basic 3 card spreads, to the more detailed Celtic cross (10 cards) spread, to the annual spread. The Celtic cross is by far the most popular, because it can be used for analyzing any situation and is thorough but not confusing to the querent.

One of the reasons that Tarot cards are so creative with their colorful pictures and symbols is to evoke emotions and feelings in the subconscious within the reader. It stirs up the intuition and helps us add that personal edge to our readings.
